MARCH 2026

we

Hello, and welcome to our newsletter for March 2026.

Advocacy remains firmly on the Water Directorate's agenda.

  • We listened in on NSW Budget Estimates this week, where questions were asked about the future of Safe and Secure Water Program. It was heartening to hear about the commitment to investigating 'alternative funding models', but we remain concerned about the continuity of capital grants beyond 2028.
  • We're promoting regional opportunities for engineering students by participating in the Australian Water Association's Careers Night panel at UNSW on 31 March.
  • With thanks to the AWA, I'm looking forward to attending the Minister's Roundtable on 1 April. More to report in the next issue.
  • The Murray Darling Basin Plan Review is now going through public consultation. In February, I presented at a Murray Darling Association regional meeting on Water for Critical Human Needs for our regional cities and towns in the Basin with the Murray Darling Basin Authority in attendance.
  • Thanks also to WSAA and Qldwater allowing us to connect with their subject matter experts as we responded to NSW EPA’s Proposed Landfill and Sewage Treatment Plant PFAS Monitoring Chemical Control Order (CCO) on 10 February 2026.
  • We are committed to safety in the water sector workforce and will continue to collaborate with WSAA and our members regarding the upcoming decision on workplace exposure limits for nine chemicals, including Chlorine gas and Hydrogen Sulphide gas.

🚀 New website

Finding information, accessing services, and engaging with us is about to get easier, with a new and improved website. Some things look different, and not everything is final yet. That’s intentional, as we continue to improve our member experience, including moving from organisation‑based to individual member logins.
