Hi all, MidCoast Council is looking at options to prevent algal growth in one of our effluent storage ponds. We've narrowed down our selection to a Hexa-Cover product (floating hexagonal interlocking plates) to block light and prevent algae formation.
We are however interested in hearing the experience from other utilities with regards to floating covers for algae or evaporation control - particulalry if you've conducted an options assessment and progressed with an option - what where the factors? how is
your experience with your selected option? Please give me a call or email - Patrick.Duiveman@midcoast.nsw.gov.au - 0418 482 614 Cheers, Pat.

Hi Pat, Hunter Water has recently installed hexacovers at a wastewater plant, in a catch pond downstream of an SBR/IDAL bioreactor. The catch pond is upstream from an UV disinfection system that was being affected by algal growth in the catch pond,
and wildlife (ducks) that were being impacted by the UV feed pumps. The hexacovers have only been installed for approximately a month, so the benefits of hexacovers are still being assessed. I'll email you some more information about the options that Hunter
Water considered. Regards Mark
