Changed Phone Numbers

Please note that most IPWEA telephone numbers have changed in late November due to office upgrading. The old numbers will operate for a short period of time however the new Water Directorate numbers are: Gary Mitchell - 8267 3010 and Eloise Stanley - 8267 3013.

Implementation of NHMRC Guidelines

To assist councils with the implementation of the 1996 NHMRC Drinking Water Guidelines, the Water Directorate has prepared a concise user- friendly summary on behalf of all councils which will be distributed shortly. The document details the difference between the 1996 guidelines and the previous guidelines such as testing and reporting requirements and financial implications

Best Practice Water Supply and Wastewater Annual Award

Thank you to those who responded to the IPWEA's request for submissions in the Water Directorate sponsored new category of the IPWEA's Engineering Excellence Awards to be presented at the May 2000 conference at Penrith Panthers.

Best Practice Database

In conjunction with the above award, the Water Directorate is endeavouring to publicise innovative water and wastewater engineering projects for the benefit of members. The database will be accessible on the web site and from now on there will be a continuous request in the newsletter for appropriate projects to publicise.

Annual Review

A short Annual Review is currently being prepared to demonstrate the benefits and costs of the Water Directorate in 1999 and the forecast for 2000. The Annual Review should be issued to all councils in January 2000.

Water Directorate Membership for 2000. Invoices for next year's membership have been sent out to the member councils and the Water Directorate thanks the councils that have rejoined so far. The Water Directorate is confident that all 79 founding member councils will rejoin and also that membership will grow in our second year of operation. Merry Christmas

The next newsletter will be published at the end of December so this is the last newsletter opportunity to wish a happy and safe Christmas to everyone who the Water Directorate has been involved with in 1999. I would like to publicly thank all the founding member councils for their support during 1999 and also to thank the Executive Committee for their participation throughout the year. The Water Directorate looks forward to your continued support and to serving you in 2000.
