Parliamentary Secretary congratulates WLMP participants on water savings
8 April 2010
Yesterday, Dr Mike Kelly, Parliamentary Secretary for Water, visited Orange and congratulated Orange City Council on the good work that has been undertaken to save 500 ML of water or almost 12% of current consumption. Through participating in the WLMP, Orange City Council has received a third of the funding for a $330,000 leak detection project that involved testing 450km of pipes, 14,000 commercial and residential meters, 5,000 valves and 8,000 hydrants.
Dr Kelly stated that 'The Australian Government, through its Water for the Future - Water Smart Australia programme, has provided $7.39 million in funding for the Water Loss Management Program and it is encouraging to recognise the early successes the program has had in increasing urban water use efficiency.'
