World Environment Day, celebrated each year on 5 June, is one of the principal vehicles through which the United Nations stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and focuses political attention and action.
2008 is also the International Year of Sanitation which also focuses world attention and awareness on sanitary issues. Further to this, note the great work undertaken by WaterAid Australia which aims to achieve a world where everyone has access to safe water, effective sanitation and
hygiene education.
