Release of the Backflow and Cross Connection Prevention Guidelines
4 February 2010
The Water Directorate is pleased to announce its latest technical document, the Backflow and Cross Connection Prevention Guidelines, has been distributed to member councils. Initially published in November 2002, this document has been completely updated and revised to take into account changes to the Plumbing Regulations, the increased installation of urban rainwater tanks in NSW and reported operational difficulties associated with backflow prevention devices.
The main objectives of the Backflow and Cross Connection Prevention Guidelines are to:
raise awareness of the issues associated with backflow in water supply systems;
provide the information necessary for water utilities to prepare appropriate policies and procedures for the management of backflow in their jurisdictions;
ensure the Guidelines comply with current regulations.
These revised Guidelines have been developed with considerable input from a number of LWUs from across NSW. All LWUs that forwarded their various policies, procedures and practices for collation are thanked for their valuable contribution.
The Backflow and Cross Connection Prevention Guidelines was prepared by Daryl McGregor, Principal Director of DLM Environmental Consultants Pty Ltd under the direction and peer review of the Water Subcommittee of the Water Directorate.
