It is very pleasing to announce that the Federal Government has offered a 12 month extension of the joint LGSA and Water Directorate Water Loss Management Program.
This additional 12 months will ensure that all 66 participating councils (double the original estimate) can finalise their water loss projects and maximise their water savings in a sustainable manner. In total, the WLMP will aim to have completed approximately 80 projects.
The WLMP staff will continue to work very hard to ensure that the original objectives set out for the program in 2006 will be achieved by 2011:
developing a strong knowledge base and capability in water loss management within NSW LWUs
recovering up to 10,000 ML of water per annum by making Council's existing infrastructure more efficient
providing financial assistance for on-ground works to reduce water loss in up to 66 NSW LWUs
preventing or postponing the need to build additional water supply infrastructure
assisting LWUs to develop ongoing water loss management programs beyond the program period.
