The Water Directorate's Annual General Meeting was held on Thursday 8 November 2007. A quorum was achieved with 11 eligible attendees and all requirements under the Incorporated Associations Act were satisfied.
Stewart McLeod , Chair of the Water Directorate, noted that the previous year had been very challenging because:
the Federal Government has become more involved in the management of water.
DEUS had been abolished and two new departments, DWE and DECC were created.
The ongoing management of the WLMP was time consuming because of its nature as a joint initiative.
The continuing drought throughout all of 2006 and the first half of 2007.
Gary Mitchell listed in his Executive Officer's report the following highlights from the past 12 months:
Membership remained unchanged at 95 member councils;
Three technical publications produced and/or sponsored over the period and two prepared but not finished;
Implementation of the Water Loss Management Program;
Involvement in a number of other activities including Water Managers Forums in Broken Hill and Sydney, LGSA meetings and conferences and sponsoring two water industry awards..
