The Water Loss Management Program, which began in 2007 as a joint initiative between the Water Directorate, LGSA and the Federal Government, has now ceased. At the end of this five year period a total of 5.35 billion litres of water has been saved or the equivalent of one 600 ml bottle of water for every Australian person every day of the year.
The success of this program in providing valuable knowledge to regional water utilities and in saving water within the reticulation systems of over 70 councils has been well documented in our monthly newsletters. A final report will be submitted by the Water Loss Management staff and Governance Committee to the Federal Government by the end of August and will be released for publication in due course.
The Water Directorate would like to sincerely thank the program team of Ian Maggs, Marko Petkovic and Melanie Werner for their efforts over the past few years to assist councils in achieving this great result. All enquiries regarding the program should be directed to Ian Maggs on 02 9242 4127 prior to 5 August 2011.
