| 2010 Excellence Award Winners Announced |
19 May 2010
On Monday night the IPWEA’s Excellence Awards Dinner was held at the Novotel in North Wollongong and was sponsored by Downer EDI. The Awards Dinner was very well attended and, once again, good food and great entertainment were provided following the presentation of the awards.
The winner of the 2010 Innovation in Water Supply and , sponsored by the Water Directorate, was Central NSW Councils for the CENTROC Water Security Study. This innovative project was undertaken by 17 central NSW councils with the objective of designing drought proofing strategies for their region. The model developed by the project participants is one that can be replicated in other areas of the State and includes the potential effects of climate change on regional and rural communities.
The model was 100% funded by the NSW State Government and has received praise from various government agencies for its wide ranging scope and its ability to include a number of stakeholders including irrigation, agriculture, mining and environmental groups.
The highly commended award was received by Armidale Dumaresq Council for the Armidale Ozonation Plant: A New Approach to Dealing with Taste and Odour.
This year there were nine projects nominated in this award category and we congratulate all the councils that sent in projects for judging. Congratulations also to all the organisers from IPWEA and everyone involved in the successful evening. Photos from the event will be posted on the website shortly.
