LOCAL GOVERNMENT WINNERS AT THE AWA NSW WATER AWARDS
18 June 2009
Three Water Directorate member councils were recently recognised for their outstanding work in the NSW water industry at the NSW Water Awards hosted by the Australian Water Association.
The first award, the NSW Water Environment Merit Award, was won by Orange City Council and Geolyse Pty Ltd for their project, Blackmans Swamp Creek Stormwater Harvesting Scheme. This project has developed a major stormwater use scheme that is set to become an international example of best practice stormwater harvesting.
The Construction Award was won by the Regional Water Supply Strategy project jointly undertaken by Clarence Valley and Coffs Harbour Councils. Judges noted that both the built and non-built aspects of this project demonstrated innovative approaches in the delivery of infrastructure and offered the flexibility to meet the needs of multiple stakeholders in securing the future supply of water for both Clarence Valley and Coffs Harbour regions.
Both of these projects were also recently nominated at the IPWEA Excellence Awards held on 18 May 2009 and won major awards. The Water Directorate congratulates our member councils for their outstanding work in the local government sphere.
