The WLMP has been up and running for just over two years now and is increasingly successful with 19 councils at the investigation stage and committed water savings of 5.5 gigalitres. As a joint Water Directorate/LGSA project, the WLMP receives assistance from the Federal Government’s Water Smart Australia Program, administered by the National Water Commission.
In June the Federal Government advised that from 1 July administration of the Water Smart Australia Program will be transferred from the NWC to the Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts (DEHWA). It was stressed that transfer of the administration will not impact on respective obligations, including funding commitments, under the deed. As mentioned in last month’s newsletter, the website has been updated so check out the location of projects being carried out under this program on www.waterloss.lgsa.org.au.
The WLMP recently launched a new website at the Shire Conference in May. The website has a water meter and an investigation and water savings map which provide up to the minute details on projects around the State. Check out the amount of water currently saved under this program at www.waterloss.lgsa.org.au. For more information please contact Mirko Sramek on 9242 4127.
