Some
time ago the Water Directorate's Executive Committee identified
the need for guidelines relating to buffer zones around wastewater
treatment facilities.
The
STP Buffer Zone Land Use Planning Guidelines have
been recently been finalised by GHD Pty Ltd in consultation
with the Water Directorate's Sewer Subcommittee, chaired by
Jeff Sharp.
This
70 page guideline addresses the growing pressure on councils
for development within buffer zones around STPs and adopts
a risk based assessment approach for each individual STP.
These guidelines complement the Department of Planning’s longstanding
Circular No. E3 by determining how buffer zones may vary to
suit local conditions.
A
copy of the Guidelines has been mailed to all
member councils this week. Additional copies are available
for purchase from the Water
Directorate at the cost of $135 for member councils and
$300 for non members.
