| Seeking Support
for our Proposed Water Loss Project |
12
August 2005
As
you are aware, the Water Directorate has applied to the National
Water Commission, under the Water Smart Australia Program,
for funding of a "Water Loss Management Program for NSW Regional
Water Utilities".
The
Project proposes a coordinated approach to water loss management
across rural and regional towns in NSW. It involves on-ground
works to reduce water loss in 33 towns with significant, known,
water losses; as well as educating all Council owned Water
Utilities in identifying water loss problems and implementing
practical, low cost solutions.
Successful
implementation of this Project will deliver water savings
of up to 15,000 ML/year, with an annual value of $15 million.
The
Project proposed by the Water Directorate has been fully endorsed
and supported by the Local Government and Shires Associations
of NSW (LGSA).
The
total value of this Statewide program is $21.7 million, of
which $13.8 million is being sought from the Water Smart Australia
Fund.
We
are seeking the support of all member Council's for the Project
through approaching your Local Members (both State and, particularly,
Federal). To assist you in this process, we have prepared
generic Draft "Report to Council" which you can put to your
Council. A full copy of the submission is also available.
