Today a joint position statement prepared by the LGSA and
Water Directorate on the need for an urgent injection of new
funding into the Country Towns Water Supply and Sewerage Program
was sent to all member councils.
As
you are aware, the Water Directorate collected data earlier
this year to obtain an overview of the current funding situation.
The contribution of all responding Councils was appreciated.
Following the collection of this data, Peter Mackenzie was
commissioned to prepare a review of the Program. A copy of
his paper "The Need to Restore Funding" is now finalised
and available from the Water
Directorate.
The
LGSA and Water Directorate recommend that you and your Council
read this document with a view to discussing this paper at
the upcoming LGSA Water Management Conference. A copy
of a draft report to Council is available to assist you with
promoting the recommendations of this report.
The
LGSA is also writing to the Mayor of each Council with a draft
campaign letter that can be used as a guide for writing to
your local member and other key members of the NSW Parliament.

you have any questions about the Peter Mackenzie position
paper or the letter being sent to all member councils contact
