Over
40 member and non-member councils responsed to the request
in July for details of the impacts, financial and otherwise,
on them from the recently announced subsidy amendments to
the CTWS&S Program.
From
the responses received the financial impact of the reduced
subsidy is more than $70 million which extrapolates to $100
million for all councils. A very substantial financial impact
will be felt by country councils as a result of the changes.

The
summary information was used in the joint Water Directorate/LGSA
working group for discussion with the State Government on
1 September. Notes from the discussions with the Minister,
Frank Sartor, will be made available shortly.
