NSW Code
of Practice for Plumbing and Drainage, 3rd Edition
20
July 2006
In
June the Minister for Local Government and the Minister for
Water Utilities gave their concurrence to the release of the
NSW Code of Practice for Plumbing and Drainage (July 2006)
prepared by the Committee on Uniformity of Plumbing and Drainage
Regulations in NSW.
A
notice has appeared in the June 30 NSW Government Gazette
advising that the Code will commence in force from 1 July.
The Code furthers water conservation efforts whilst ensuring
safe drinking water. The Code had been updated because of
the increasing popularity of water conservation devices such
as rainwater tanks, greywater re-use and recycling systems.
The Code outlines new requirements to help plumbers, builders
and householders choose the safest, most cost-effective and
efficient method to install water saving devices. The Code
reflects the Australian Standard AS/NZS 3500 but allows sets
out the variations that meet the requirements of water utilities
in Sydney and country areas of NSW.
The
Code
is freely available on the website of the DEUS or a hard copy
can be purchased from DEUS's Customer Services Section on
02 8281 7378 from the middle of August for $20 including GST
and postage and handling.
Note that any amendments will be gazetted in the NSW Government
Gazette and placed on the DEUS website. A circular will
be issued to Councils and the plumbing industry advising of
any amendments. For more information please contact
