During the recent update of the NHMRC
Australian Drinking Water Guidelines, the implementation
of the ADWG in small communities was recognised as potentially
difficult. In order to ensure the broad adoption of
the ADWG, the NHMRC initiated the development of an electronic
decision support tool to assist local drinking water managers
to develop management plans tailored to their community.
As
a result, the NHMRC has published the Australian Drinking
Water Guidelines: Community Water Planner - A tool for small
communities to develop drinking water management plans.
The
aim of the Community Water Planner is to assist small communities
to improve the management of drinking water supplies through
adoption of a preventive management including all processes
from catchment to consumer.
