The Drought Management Workshop was the first joint event organised by the Water Directorate and the AWA. Feedback from participants confirms the two day Drought Management Workshop was a great success with 97% responding that the workshop met their expectations.

There's no doubt the workshop owed a lot of its success to Chris Davis ' well planned program with fine tuning from the Water Directorate 's David Byrne. Despite the gloomy connotations of the subject matter, there was a very positive atmosphere and outlook amongst the delegates as the eleven speakers shared their wisdom of droughts, case studies and strategies. The workshop brought together a wealth of experience which promoted an informed discussion with some particularly good debate and agreement about the need for consistent state wide definitions for levels of water restrictions but understandably not for imposition of state-wide restrictions.

Jeff Austin, who facilitated the panel sessions on day 2, has been engaged by the Water Directorate to prepare a Drought Management Guidelines document which will incorporate the information gathered from the workshop including state-wide definitions.

Many thanks to everyone involved who contributed to the success of the workshop, particularly to AWA's Lee Devereux for ensuring that all aspects of the workshop ran very smoothly and professionally. Thanks also to the speakers for preparing presentations in a very short timeframe who, in appreciation of their valuable efforts, were allowed to slightly overrun their allotted time.
